The odds and ends they left behind
to captivate a lecher's mind
(the locks of brown or yellow hair,
the articles of underwear,
the postcards from another coast)
to you were never uppermost.

But vestiges of rose perfume
still linger all about your room,
and stains across your pillowslips
suggest the soft imprint of lips,
these insubstantial souvenirs
reminding you of fervid years.
