Since the U.S. Poet Laureate (Billy Collins) Opposes War with Iraq and since the Wall Street Journal has published A Day of Poetry for the War,” it looks as if we have a new short list for the next U.S. Poet Laureate-- Elliot McGucken, Tim Murphy, and Thomas Newton.

I AM THE NEW POET LAUREATE OF THE UNITED STATES.

Nope. That didn't work either. Damn.

nyctom,

I guess you noticed that the truce was off. I forgot to tell you that it ended after two months of reading contemporary American poetry and the only good poem I could find was "Do not go gentle into that good night" by Dylan Thomas. What was worse than the bad poetry were the biographies that went with the poets and the supporting organizations that had bestowed grants and awards for it and them.

You said that I wasn't a poet. I think the Wall Street Journal disagrees. I hope this is a trend you are setting here. By the way, you may be with the majority of the poets, but you are on the wrong side of the politics and the American people.
