First Things, Chronicles
First Things has two new poems of mine, and two weeks ago Chronicles published ten epigrams under the title Multum in Parvo, which I learned here. Yeah, my Latin really is that bad. Chronicles asked me to update my author bio for their obiter dicta. I said "Timothy Murphy has now published 49 poems at Chronicles since 1996, but who's counting?"
One of the First Things poems is a Memorial Day poem for a dead young soldier down the road. It wasn't very well received at The Deep End, and what merit it has is largely due to my quoting the Sullivan/Zohar translation of Psalm 27, one of King David's earliest masterpieces, the theme for the pastor's homily. I hope the poem will give some comfort to military families. 3000 years from now I'd like someone to refer to one of Tim Murphy's earliest masterpieces, but I don't think that's likely. |
Oh you're too modest, Tim. But I love your sense of humor! Congratulations, this is all great.

The very picture of modesty. Congrats, Tim.

Thank you Charlotte and David. Paul and Jody have been awfully good to me too. First Things has published eighteen Murphy poems, plus a bunch of Sullivan poems and translations. But who's counting?
David is really sui generis. Unify the tribes of Israel as a nation state AND write that well. I shake my head. |
