Moving and articulate testimonies to W.S's power. I remember James Baldwin's "Why I Stopped Hating Shakespeare," published in the London Observer in the 1960's, with his statement that ". . . a poet . . . [a]nd his responsibility, which is also his joy and his strength and his life, is to defeat all labels and complicate all battles . . . ."
