Uvula

Someone I hosted for a poetry reading in recent times read a funny poem about his or her uvula. I think it was a woman but may be wrong. Does this ring any bells?

Though scholars will say, like, duh,
the Latinate uvula
means “little grape” (or uva).
This “little grape” might prove a
fine theme for poetry.
Is there such a poem? Search me.

Could it have been Laraine Newman back when you were guest-hosting Saturday Night Live in the seventies?

Everyone seems to be drawing a blank on this. Maybe I'm having a false-memory attack. Maybe I'll write a poem about my uvula. Or someone else's.

Aaron Poochigian 08-03-2017 11:30 AM

You should, Sam. I have read thousands of poems about vulvas but nary a one about a uvula.

An uvula is a vulva that has been turned inside out and saddled with another "u" - it's a dangerous and usually worthless procedure, and described by experts as almost as foolhardy as starting a sestina.
