Did anyone already mention that Deborah has a fine poem, "Hercules' Eighth Labor," in the March issue of the journal First Things? Rhina Espaillat in December, and Deborah Warren this month--a great run for formalists in the journal! (Robert Conquest's poem in an intervening issue wasn't bad either.)

I have to second what Mr. Bottum says. I just read Deborah's poem in First Things and it's a magnificent piece,
full of energy and grace - where each word seems to fall into place so effortlessly. One of the things that I admire in her work, is that she has such a good ear for writing verse about classical subjects.

Jody, thanks for your comment. And what fine company I'm in, in First Things.

For some time now I have been a fan of the poetry that appears in First Things. (I've had my share of rejections from there as well.) Congrats Ms. Warren!
