Book II of the Ars Amatoria
will appear shortly in the May/June issue of PN Review. |
I'm not sure anyone this side of the big pond realizes how important the PN Review is. This is a coup, and no less than Len deserves. I could not be happier for him. Just as Frost had to be discovered in Great Britain...

Dear Len
Congratulations! The project continues. I have been a subscriber to PNR for the past twenty years. They have also taken one or two critical pieces of mine in the past. The editor, Michael Schmidt, is an influential fellow in UK circles, though oddly perhaps, he is a Mexican citizen. Certainly, to have your Ovid in PNR counts as a real publishing success. Bravo! Clive |
It was Clive's description of PNR a while ago that let me know what a big deal this is. (Of course, when I mention this in a gathering where Len is, he shuts me off--he's far too modest.) I'm glad Book II is seeing the light of day next month.

Well, not too modest to mention
the continuing publication. I sincerely thank everyone for your most kind comments. Meanwhile, I knew Michael Schmidt had grown up in the U.S. and Mexico, studied at Harvard, knew Robert Shaw, etc., etc., but was unaware he still maintained Mexican citizenship. |
