Spherians, On July 4 Tim Steele will swing into the lariat saddle and answer questions about poetry, poetics, and his own practice for ten days. This is an extraordinary opportunity for us to converse with one of the most important poets and scholars of our time. The best way to take advantage of this is of course to read Tim's splendid books, but a fine introduction is his home page. Just type Timothy Steele into your search program. The page has a selection of Tim's poems and much critical material, including his entries from the Dictionary of Literary Biography, The Reader's Guide to 20th C. Lit, and the Oxford Companion to 20th C. Poetry. I hope you'll avail yourself of this opportunity by acquainting yourselves thoroughly with Professor Steele.

Dear Eratosphereans,

We are very lucky to have Timothy Steele in our midst as the next guest Poet Lariat. He is not only the foremost scholar in metrical poetry, indeed in poetry, but also an all-around nice guy. I urge you all to make good use of this rare opportunity to prepare & post some good questions here for Professor Steele. I'm sure that by now, you have stopped by his website to familiarize yourself with him, and his work, and, bought yourself, at least, a copy of his best-selling book which has become the Bible on meter -- All the Fun's in How You Say a Thing: An Explanation of Meter and Versification . You may also want to read his interview with Kevin Durkin, here , from our Millennial issue.

Professor Steele is already a registered & bona fide Eratospheran, & if you look up, you can even see his name on the Lariat marquee -- so, join me, & our other Tim in giving him a warm & enthusiastic Eratosphere welcome!

Cheers,
...Alex
