Mmmm.... The Singer Gazelle wasn't sporty, that was the Sunbeam Rapier http://www.classicandsportscar.ltd.u...pier_18093.jpg The Singer was just a slightly snooty version of the Hillman Minx.

Singer, in pre-Rootes days, had been a rather staid and respectable motor (definitely not a 'car'); my father ran a Hunter, complete with a splendid horse mascot on the bonnet. http://www.motorbase.com/pictures/co...oon-svlmax.jpg

Are poets a conservative bunch when it comes to cars? I was once offered Ted Hughes' Rover P5, http://assets.shannons.com.au/XDS895...7-rover-p5.jpg but it was in much too decrepit condition to be worth restoring.
