Is it barely possible that they did mean to say exactly that (and mean it), but in such a way as to appear merely confused while stating the truth and appearing mod and post-denotatively disingenuous? A magazine lives on its ads. They weren't lying, even by mistake. They surely have legal on retainer, if not on staff.
By they way, to my eyes those pumps on the internet would have been less compromising if they had been wedgies.
