Wonderful article. I am interested in your response to it, Catherine--to what extent are you concerned with the author's (and the journal's) central concern of Catholicism,
per se? I imagine that no answer to the question would undercut the review in my regard. I'm just more interested than I usually am in a response from the poet being reviewed given the reviewer's perspective.
NB: When I open the page, there is an ad for a book called "Why I Don't Call Myself Gay." I read an
article in the New York Times yesterday about the Cardinals of the Arch Dioceses of Newark and New York, a compare and contrast piece. The Cardinal in New York, Dolan, blurbed this book. The Cardinal in Newark blurbed another new book that is premised on the Catholic church having to accept the word "gay" out of human decency and respect for people. Yeah New Jersey!
