i was once at a round table discussion in which
many learned things were being said about poetry.
at one point a member of the audience, in answer
to some point that apparently required a stronger
reply than any in the panel was capable of, recited
the whole of a pretty long poem from memory. the
panel was reduced to silent consternation. none of
us had ever attempted such a feat.
