I'm chairing the "Whitworth at Seventy" panel. Are you confusing Annie with me, Sam? Or simply confusing me?

Jayne

Sorry, Ann and Jayne. I was mixing my midlanders. My fault.

Oh what a shame Ann can't be there too. That would be fun.

And this is what I am going to do

John Whitworth’s Workshop: Rhyme and Reason

Since my early twenties I have been writing poems, there must be seven or eight hundred by now. All of them rhyme and scan, not because I think other forms of poetry worthless, but because I can write no other way. I am offering a workshop for those who want to write that way and those who already do. I will attempt to share what skills I have and perhaps learn some things I do not now know from the participants. Participants will write some poems but I am sure they will be happy to do that. My motto, or at least a motto is John Dryden’s remark that the rhyme has often helped him to the sense. I also believe that if you knew what a poem was going to say before you began to write it, then therewould be no point in doing it at all. Perhaps I ought to have called in Rhyme and Unreason.

This sounds fantastic.

When are you coming to Australia John? I'll take you on a tour of the MCG.

I shall come and take you up on that, Dmian. The future beckons if death does not intervene.

For as long as John persists in saying "Westchester," we should consider calling him Mr. Whit Worth.
