Spectator Competition
Pleased to see that Boris Johnson won the latest one, with a limerick insulting President Erdogan.
However, I didn't think it was great, judging by the Speccie's usual standards, and suspect other forces may have been in play.

David,
Why would that please you? You can see the level pleasure with which this announcement was met by others here on the Drills & Amusements thread.

I'd love to see that, but it requires a password, which I have not got.

But here is the Spectator result.

Thanks, Roger.
Is there anywhere we can see the short-listed poems?

I don't know that there are any, David.
What they did really stinks. They admit that the winner they selected was "anti-meritocratic," which is pretty much just their way of saying that they ran a sham contest and wasted the time of everyone who made a go at it.

I agree, Roger.
I'll be meeting him at a function tomorrow, so if I can I'll raise the issue.

That assumes that when Murray set the contest he already knew who the winner would be. He did lead us to believe that the winner would be chosen based on the quality (or filthiness) of the entry, and it was not fair to entrants that he changed his mind on getting an entry from a political celebrity, but, whether or not, based on Murray's clear goal of bringing attention to this squelching of Turkish and German free speech, the unfairness is justifiable, it is certainly understandable.
If we're angry enough, we can always start our own contest for limericks about Murray.

He could have chosen a winner and also printed Boris's. But I agree with you if you are saying what he did wasn't justifiable. Being "understandable" doesn't change that. In fact, I object because I understand and don't approve.

"anti-meritocratic" = Newspeak for "the fix was in".
