...has just published my sonnet, "A Small Mystery on Gray's Field" in their Summer Jubilee edition.
I'm prouder of that than any of my publication credits.
I don't think they ever published a poem before.
Regards,
David

Ah funny isn't it, David, the things that bring us our greatest joy.

I just adore the name of your town. It is so veddy veddy British. There should be a Masterpiece Theater series set there--if there isn't already.

Many congratulations on the publication credit. You will now be a local celebrity, but we here can say "We sorta knew him when..."

Thanks, Tom.
I've already spoken to the Vicar about having my monument erected next to Thomas Gray's, overlooking the field in question; but so far the idea's fallen on stony ground. Still, I'm sure he'll come round, eventually.
Even the Brits find the name comical.
I think the reason I was pleased, is because everything I write is targeted at an audience of non-Poeticals, and up till now I'd assumed such an audience was hypothetical.
Regards,
David

That's great, David. I think the monument should be designed to match Gray's. Then the question becomes which of your immortal lines do we engrave upon its four faces. I nominate the killer closing couplets of your sick joke poems!

Yes indeed, Tim.
I've been thinking about my inscriptions, and I came to exactly the same conclusion.

David

The poem deserves that and more. Congratulations!

Perhaps the monument should have sculptures of you and a dog. That would seem fitting. In fact, there's a statue of a dog, a very fine one, here in Central Park. I think it's a rescue dog, very alert, strong, and shaggy, and I'm delighted and sometimes touched every time I see the noble canine in bronze.
