I realize this tooting of one's own horn can get
fairly obnoxious, but this site seems to be one of the few
places where one can toot at all.

So, shamefacedly...

My book recently out from U of Evansville Press,
"Even as We Speak," was just named one of
the three Finalists for the Independent
Publishers Book Award in Poetry. I lost out
to Carolyn Kizer's monumental new "collected"
called "Calm, Cool, and Collected," from , I
believe, Copper Canyon Press, and co-edited by
Johanna Keller, of West Chester fame.

Oh, well. As I always say, I'm in this
racket for the money!

Thumbs up

Toot away! Kizer's book is currently sitting on my table waiting for me --- I'll ask our library to get yours! Huzzah!

Hi Len,

First of all -- congratulations! That's fine news, indeed.

Second of all -- I've seen this half-lamentation over self-announcement several times now from several members, and I can't be silent any longer...

Personally, this is my very favorite forum on the entire web. My day consists of doing things like scrubbing floors and referee-ing smallish, constantly-bickering persons, in the bayous of Louisiana, more or less isolated from any real culture. To be able to come here and rejoice in all the great news of everyone's accomplishments is like manna to me! I love the 'shameless self-promotion' thing. And frankly, I find it encouraging, as well. Much more so than tuning in to CNN to find out another teenager has murdered his entire graduating class.

I say God bless Alex for setting up this place. Now, let's not talk rot anymore, about 'shamefacedness,' shall we?

Best,
Jennifer

Len,

Well worthy of a good toot of the horn, that. Lavish congratulations.

And thanks to Jennifer for those sentiments.

Peter

Len:
I echo the congratulations, and I say that bringing your accomplishment to our attention is part of your task. A poet who believes in his or her own work and then lets modesty get in the way of finding an audience might as well not write at all. I also echo Jennifer's praise of Alex for providing this forum.

Dear Friends.

Well, OK. I agree. (If I apologize too much,
then all I can say is, "I'm sorry!")

Thanks for all the kind words from everyone.

Now go out and order ten copies each?????

(Notice the old habits--those question marks.)

Very best to you all.....

and let's hear some OTHER tooters, eh?

Len

"I love the 'shameless self-promotion' thing."

Jennifer,

So do I. I sign most of my correspondence, "Thine, Shameless O'Clawson."

That just won't work with Krisak, right, Len? O'Krisak?

But way to go! Maybe someday we'll be lucky enough to meet again at a gathering of the august New England Poetry Club.

Bob

Bob,
There'll be those summer readings down
at the Longfellow House, and I'll be delighted
to finally meet you and get to know you better.

Meanwhile, very best to all.

But about those other tootings I mentioned:
let's let 'er rip, eh guys? Magazines,
prizes, readings, everything. These are,
after all, also excellent sources of
information, and they help me feel like
I'm keeping up with my fellow sufferers
in the vineyards of verse. Especially, future
readings at different venues would be helpful, no?
