Default DC Science Cafe reading

I will be a featured reader along with Joanne Growney at the DC Science Cafe on April 20. It's held at the famous Busboys & Poets, 5th and K Streets, starting at 6:30 pm.

Joanne specializes in poetry about mathematics.

I will read from my Sonnets from the Voyage of the Beagle, but will likely throw in a few pro-myth villanelles.

If anyone is in Washington and free on Monday night, it might be interesting. There is an open mic, but I think they want only science poems. I imagine that would include science fiction. And the odd sestina.

Thanks,
RM

Cheering you on, Rick!

It sounds great. I actually just wrote a poem with science in it--but will have to run by some local open mic... Possibly tomorrow night! There's a newish, decent series here called Third Friday Salon at The Rapp Saloon, in Santa Monica. Something to bear in mind if you, or anyone else, ever gets out here.

Hi Charlotte,

Thanks.

I am trying to decide whether to read from the Darwin book or line up my science-themed poems such as the one I have in Metrical at the moment. I may just lead with some Erasmus Darwin (my real hero in that family) and hit them with a few sonnets, as that's what they paid for.

I really want to get to something in the LA area. Sadly David Rosenthal in the Bay area has put his monthly reading on ice. He is probably right to have done so, rather than let it become a drag, which I think he fears might happen. In fact, it's been a great series.

Good luck with a science poem~,:^)

Rick

Rats. If I didn't have to be up at 4:00 AM the next morning, I would come into the city for that.

Rats here, too! I have a number of science poems and would love to go, Rick, but have a scheduling conflict. It's sure to be a great reading. I'm enjoying your Darwin sonnets and other poems.

Hey, Rick, thanks re my poem! Sad news about David R--although l know he was weighing a freeze. It was a good series. Let's stay in touch about an LA visit. There are some possibilities, but you'll need to plan well in advance. Break a leg in DC!

Shaun and Claudia... shucks! I would love to see you guys.
Charlotte--LA!

I have determined that I will read only from the Darwin poems. Stay out of trouble. But I will lead with the two introductory stanzas of Erasmus Darwin's Botanic Garden.
