Prospectus: “Poetry and Global Responsibility”
The West Chester University Poetry Center & Conference will feature this year the first of an annual series of symposiums. This year’s event will focus on what poets can do to assist in international relief efforts for children.
Chairing the symposium will be Shirley Geok-lin Lim of the University of California-Santa Barbara, poet and naturalized U. S. citizen, who is a member of the conference’s resident faculty. One speaker will be Emily Grosholz, poet and philosopher from Pennsylvania State University; Grosholz has recently published an illustrated volume of poetry,
Childhood, proceeds of which are donated to UNICEF. A. E. Stallings, the conference keynote speaker, has worked with refugee relief in Greece and will also take part.

We plan to add other poets and representatives from the UN and other organizations to the panel. Attendees will include guests of the West Chester conference, members of the media, and the general public. We will record the proceedings and post them on appropriate websites.
Our aim is strictly non-partisan and apolitical. It will provide poets with outlets to lend their efforts to children’s relief and will provide organizations a chance to promote their own efforts and to collaborate with established writers from the U. S. and abroad.
We ask the support of both individuals and organizations in joining us for a meeting of minds and hearts. All who wish to be named as supporters will be listed in our promotional literature and internet sites.
The event will be held on the West Chester campus on the final day of the annual poetry conference, Saturday, June 10, 2017, from 10:00-11:45 a.m. Lunch will follow at the University Foundation Building. We are charging no admission but request donations to the Poetry Center to defray costs of the meal.
We especially invite members of the media to attend. We think that the event will be newsworthy and will promote the humanitarian cause of betterment for our planet and its children.
Coordinate. Cooperate. Collaborate.
