Edited by Eileen Jones and Peter Mortimer, and from the same stable as 2010’s
Iron Book of New Humorous Verse, an anthology of 139 limericks,
Limerick Nation (The UK in Verse) has just been published by Iron Press. (ISBN978-0-9575032-3-6)
Contributors had to use part of the postal address of their main UK residence as the initial rhyme word, which cut down the potential for Spherean participation, but among the 87
limerati are John Whitworth with two on Cambry/Canterbury’s alcohol consumption and Jerome Betts with four on that Sinopolis of the South-West, Torquay, which will probably get him run out of town by the tourist board.
The English regional breakdown is North East 42, South West, 25, South East 18, North West 16, Midlands 13, London 4, South 3, East Anglia 2, a total of 123, while Scotland fields 14 and Wales 2.
Apologies if there any more Sphereans I’ve missed.
