Just received the hot off the press anthology An Exaltation of Forms, ed. Annie Finch and Kathrine Varnes [U of Michigan Press], and a fine volume it is.

It happens to include an essay I wrote on the art of carmina figurata (shaped poems), tucked amidst the generally more distinguished company: Gioia, Hecht, Hadas, Nims, Steele, Gwynn, Kennedy, Hacker, Kumin, etc., etc.

There may be other Eratosphereans (or lurkers) there too, though the only name I recognize as a regular from this charmed circle is Gail White (who did the essay on "Form Lite: Limericks and Clerihews"). My apologies to anyone I may have missed.

Btw, it also includes a passage ["Beowulf's Funeral"] from the Murphy/Sullivan trans. (p. 19; following an essay on accentual verse by Gioia).

Cheers,
Jan
