What everyone has said. One of the best poets, most generous
teacher! Congratulations, Rhina!

Great news, but more a coup for the press than for Rhina. Hasn't Moore Moran also won this contest? That's a pretty good record. I met John Smelcer in Nashville a couple of years ago. Cumberland Poetry Review's press published his translations (with a CD)from the indigenous Alaskan language he speaks. Interesting character.

Congratulations, Rhina. I can't think of anyone who deserves it more.

Thanks, guys! I'm accepting all these honors on behalf of the aged, like Tennyson's Ulysses: how does that go? "Some work of noble note..."? As for Moore Moran, yes, his name immediately made me feel I'm in wonderful company, as everything I've seen of his is remarkable. Thanks, Len, my good buddy, for doing my bragging for me!

I write this "you're welcome" to
Rhina quite late.

I see that up above, Deborah
has beaten me to the punch on
the astonishing news of Rhina's
SECOND book prize.

And since, Deborah herself will
probably never mention it, I should
let everyone know that she and a number
of the Powows (Alfred Nicol, I think,
along with Mike Juster and who else, Deborah?)
will soon (if they are not now) be appearing
on the on-line version of the Paris Review.
