Sleaze & Slander
For all my other books I have been blessed with presses that have great art departments or consultants. This time I am on my own, and given my lack of aptitude in the graphic arts, that's a small but manageable problem.
If anyone with artistic talent has suggestions for work that might make a fine cover for "Sleaze & Slander," AND that work is either in the public domain or cheaply AND easily acquirable, please let me know.
Thanks!

Michael, can you give us a bit more info about the book's contents? Is it translations or your own work? Contemporary or not? There is a lovely Botticelli painting that is an allegory of calumny, but I am not sure that that would fit your theme.

Mike,
If you're interested in abtsracts, I can recommend the work of Regina Valluzzi (who provided the cover art for my book at a very reasonable price), at http://nerdlypainter.com/, and also the work of a friend, at http://www.leepina.com/ (though I'm not at all sure she has any experience in this sort of project). You can browse through many different pieces on both sites.
Great title!

It's a "new and selected" light verse volume--mostly my stuff with some translations of the work of better poets.

There's all of these. I have no idea about the availability.

When I was looking for an image to go on the cover of my latest poetry book, I wanted an image of a female artist who had had a notably tempestuous love life. That didn't narrow things down much, but when I started plugging in actual names, such as Camille Claudel, I found an image I could use through Google Image. Then you just have to contact the artist or the group who holds the rights to the image to see what they want for it. I like the image to have some connection to the title/subject of the book, but some people just like good art and don't care what the connection is. It's up to you.

I looked at some of the Library of Congress political cartoons, but I didn't see one that struck me enough, although I was tempted by one of a man holding two politicians drawn as snarling puppies, with the puppies being held dangling by their back legs.

Just for a laugh I typed sleaze and slander into a search of google images. I see several great book covers among the results...

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, Mike, but a search for Roman decadence summoned this (I don't know if it's public domain)....

Oooh, I was thinking more contemporary but that painting of the orgy might just do it!
