Some of you maybe interested (but I suspect bowled over by a gigantic wave of indifference) to learn that both Kate (my wife) and I have had poems accepted in an anthology of New Zealand poetry.
Oddly enough, the selections were not our personal favourities.
(Are they ever?)

Not bowled over by a gigantic wave of indifference, and clapping my hands loudly, I say: Congratulations! Have any of the to-be-published poems been workshopped here? I'd like to look them up. And what's the anthology called? Once again, well done!

G'day Fuggy,
Thanks very much.
The book is presently with the printers and is expected to be on shelves within six weeks for about $NZ35.00 (About A$30.00, US$15.50) (Not available in the US I fear.)
It is called 'An Anthology of New Zealand Poetry."
I think my (only) accepted poem was workshopped here. It was a sonnet called "Scotch Mist." Not one of my best in my opinion, but as we all know, the writer's opinion doesn't count for much.
If you'd like to see it I'd be happy to send it to you privately so as not to bore the kilts off everyone here. Let me know. (It's probably in the archives somewhere unless somebody's been doing some housekeeping.)

Thanks again,

Peter E

Peter and Kate,

Congratulations!

You will be probably shocked to hear that my kilt was bored off years ago and after not having been arrested, would like to see you post the poem(s) here. I vaguely remember Scotch Mist from when I first arrived on Eratosphere a few months ago.

PS: If anyone posts any of my dreadful old poems I'll be sending the boys round...

Nigel

Thanks Nigel,
I have no desire to see any male person sans kilt so I will post the poem here. Kate (Kathy, actually) is at work - we are both shift workers and are seeing far too little of each other at the moment - so she may post hers separately although possibly not. She seems a little intimidated by Eratosophere for some reason. Personally I kinda enjoy the trepidatory feeling I get whenever I post something here.

Send as many big, black cars around as you want. I'll leave the porch light on...

Scotch Mist

So there you are my friend, I thought you’d gone.
Not quite within my grasp unless I stretch,
but reach I must so you may lay upon
my tongue - though all I taste is bitter vetch.

You give me strength to stumble through the day
so passers-by might smile and nod their head,
Well he looks happy, life for him’s okay.
My lips can smile, but inside, I am dead.

I see you’ve gone now but I can replace
you in a second from my secret store,
and I must hurry, for it’s time to chase
my demons to their hiding-place once more.

(I’ll take some of your brother in a flask
to help me to sustain this fragile mask.)
