Poem in The Spectator
My poem 'Love's Sweet Song' has been published in this week's Spectator - the front half which is more meritorious. And earns more money.

John, Congrats. You Brits are lucky in having "The Spectator." Would you be willing to copy "Love's Sweet Song" here in this thread? I would love to see it.

Thank you Aaron and Erik.
I'm not sure it's allowed to copy one of my own poems here. What do you say, Jayne?

Many congratulations, John. That's a huge accolade!
By all means post the poem - or a link to it - for us to see here (it's not a General Talk thread).

Well, thank goodness. I am a lonely bachelor, and it has been a long time since I have heard love's sweet song.

Well, Poochy, perhaps it's not as sweet as it first appears.
Love’s Sweet Song
She didn't love the boy who loved her,
She loved another boy who said
He loved her but he didn't love her,
Loved another girl instead,
Who loved him a while, then left him,
Left him loveless, left him lorn,
She bereft him when she left him
Wishing he had not been born.
In the air the sounds of leaving.
On the sleeve the broken heart.
On the tongue the old deceiving
Overturns the applecart.
Love's sweet song goes on for ever,
Tinkling like September rain.
Love is gone and Love will never,
Never, never, never, never,
Never light your life again.
Those of you who live in the UK can of course invest in a copy of The Spectator. There are three more excellent poems and it is after all the second best political magazine on the planet (what an odd phrase!) The best is Quadrant.
of course. I would send the poem to Les Murray, but he already has it.
Shakespeare has only five repeated nevers. I have seven. Which shows...

Well, John, you should be very proud of those four stanzas of perfection. Bravissimo!

Thank you, Poochy. Your opinion means a lot.
The poem was (partly) about my daughter, but it proved totally wrong in her case.
