The ARTICHOKE
In Genesis, as a flippant joke,
The Lord created the artichoke;
With armor plates of glaucous green,
It’s the worst darned joke I’ve ever seen.
A part of the thistle family,
The ’choke holds no appeal to me;
When thoroughly, it's boiled or steamed,
By gourmets it is well esteemed.
Like savages, they rip apart
The armor plate from tender heart;
A lot of energy is spent
For mighty paltry nourishment.
A waste of time to eat; alas
It’s cherished by the leisure class.
With taste approximating phlegm,
I like to think the ’choke’s on them.
The Pengiun Book of Limericks arrived in my mailbox yesterday, and it is welcome reading to allieve what has become a long spell of crappy winter weather.
I got involved in replenishing my dwindling firewood supply last week, and clean forgot about the deadline on this comp. Oh well, it might have some recycling potential in a future comp ...
