Default Dante's "Convivio" pre-order deal (sort of)

I hesitate to announce this here for a few reasons: because I haven’t been around much lately, because the book probably will appeal only to Dante freaks like me or to people who enjoy medieval thought, and because it costs a lot.

On the other hand, the three long poems in the book were all workshopped at the Sphere. Which in fact was a huge help.

So here goes: My annotated edition of Dante's Convivio is due out in August, as announced here.

Supposedly the price is for making back the publisher’s expenses and because the book is bulky at 750 pages. Plus the hard cover etc. I do wish it cost less. There’s a 20% discount for pre-orders, as explained at this web page.

Since it’s a lot for any individual to spend, perhaps you can convince your local librarian that their stacks can’t live without it.

Of course you should announce it here, Andrew.
And without hesitation!

Huge congratulations.

Nice work, Andrew. I think I can request my University to buy it. I struggle to follow Mandelstam's work on Dante which is part of my thing next semester, so I can legitimately say I need it.

Congrats, Andrew. I do not know "The Convivio" so I will check yours out.

Congratulations Andrew. This seems a great achievement.

I'm very much an amateur admirer of Dante, so the Convivio is quite a long way out of my comfort zone. I will look out for the reviews, though! (I wish you only good ones.)

Cheers

David

Thanks Nemo, Andrew, Aaron, and David. The Convivio is mostly Dante’s prose commentary on his own poems, so quite different from the Divine Comedy. On the other hand there are lots of overlapping themes, since he probably stopped writing it so he could write the poem. Which clearly was one of the best literary decisions of all time.

The more I worked on the Convivio the more I was astonished by Dante’s innovativeness and subtlety. Not that that’s news for anyone who’s read the DC, but this book gives us a look around in his workshop as his thoughts and poetics are taking shape. Not an easy read but well worth the effort if you want to go deeper into Dante’s world.
