I'd suggest disqualifying Stevie Smith and adding Marie Ponsot.

Has anyone ever heard of these poets? Other than Kevin Young?

I've heard of both the Graywolf books; I have not read them. Possibly I have more exposure to Graywolf's ad campaigns because they are a Twin Cities press. Their books seem to be "hot" this year; they're getting a lot of media and contest attention.

I confess ignorance of the other names, other than Young and Stevie Smith.

Aha! I have spotted a book I want to read by a poet I've never heard of.

And - Stevie Smith has to stay on the list, for the reasons stated in the apology for her inclusion.

The Great Stevie will be the subject of one of our critical seminars at West Chester, June 7-10. Greg Dowling and Moira Egan will do the honors. You should come, Ann.

From the New York Times Book Review's recent article on what notable Americans read in 2016:

5) “The Complete Lyrics of Cole Porter,” edited by Robert Kimball. Cole Porter was a genius at writing witty, intelligent, whimsical songs that will remain a part of the American culture for centuries to come. Don’t believe me? Read the lyrics to “Night and Day,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” and “I Get a Kick Out of You.”

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient and the N.B.A.’s all-time leading scorer.

I'd read Etel Adnan only briefly in an anthology (American Hybrid). The rest are opaque.
