Carol has selected 70 of the Sphereans' Clas(sick) Jokes to appear in Light. Each of my dear colleagues is represented, and I thank all of you for turning my hare-brained idea into a very funny book. Her selections were made on the basis of page layout and profanity, and not necessarily on literary merit (if we can assume any at all for this miscellaney!) Light can be subscribed to on-line at www.lightquarterly.com.

Anyone interested in formal poetry who doesn't subscribe to Light should be prohibited from writing verse. Support one of the publications that supports you! And you'll enjoy it, as well.

Richard:

Does that include free verse as well?

The 70 poems still have to be blessed by John Mella, but after reading an early precis of our book he gave us a 44-page block in the Autumn 2002 issue of Light Quarterly and left the selection of poems to Tim and me as guest editors. I packed it as full as Light's page layout would allow.

Our writers are Jim Hayes, Robert Schechter (Roger Slater), David Anthony, Richard Wakefield, X. J. Kennedy, R. S. Gwynn, Kevin Andrew Murphy, Chris Wagner, John Beaton, Renate Micallef, Ralph La Rosa (RCL), David Condell (conny), Tim Murphy, and Carol Taylor. This is quite an accomplishment, members!

Timothy, Carol, and all the poets involved:

Congratulations to each of you! This will be a grand splash for the Sphere!

What a terrific team effort. I'll bet it's a first in literary history. You might want to think about publicizing it in, say, Poets and Writers. It could give Alex a terrific boost. This could become not only the best, but the ACKNOWLEDGED BEST poetry site on the web.

John Mella took 68 of the 70 poems submitted. Carol has posted the final contents over at Lariat. Hearty congratulations to all fourteen collaborators, each of whom is represented in the final collection.

No commiseration necessary, Peter. I'm too busy being happy about my nine poems that made it to be much discouraged about my two poems that didn't. Thanks again, Tim and Carol.

I've always loved the solitary nature of the poet's work; I never expected to take such pleasure in a communal poetry enterprise. Thanks to Tim and Carol, of course, and to all the others who contributed and commented.
