Default Two UK comps in July

The first doesn't specifically exclude non-UK residents, but the second does.

Black Country Living Museum Annual Poetry Competition 2016
Deadline: 29 July 2019. Free to enter.
Prizes: The first prize is £100, a family ticket to the Museum and publication on the museum website, and there are other cash prizes and opportunities for publication.
Theme: Inspired and informed by the historical events in the Black Country, this year's theme is 'Earth & Air'. Entries can interpret the theme of the competition as historical, industrial, scientific, ecological, environmental, personal, reflective, or in any other way. The competition is open to adults aged 18 years and over, and to poetry in any style. Judges: Dave Reeves, Liz Berry and Mel Weatherley.
For more details see : https://www.bclm.co.uk/learning/annu...n-2016/457.htm

Carers UK Creative Writing Competition 2016
Deadline: 31 July 2016. The competition is free to enter and open to UK residents. First prize £150.
Judge: Cheryl Moskowitz.
In our third creative writing competition we’re welcoming poems and short stories on all aspects of caring – the joys, challenges and complex emotions that come with looking after a loved one. Whether you’re an experienced writer or have never expressed yourself through creative writing before, we would love to hear from you. In November 2016 we will be producing an anthology of the winning and commended poems and stories, plus poems selected by Carers UK’s volunteers, staff and trustees.
Entries must be unpublished, in English, and not a translation of another author’s work.
You can enter
· up to three poems, each no longer than 40 lines
· one short story, of up to 1,000 words
For further details and to enter: http://www.carersuk.org/how-you-can-...16-competition

You don't want to have anything to do with a competition judged by Dave, Liz and Mel, Julie. Look for one where they have proper names. Like John and Julie, say.

If you want to enter the other one, email your entry to me and I'll enter it as me. Then, when you win, I'll pass the money on to you.

If Dave and Mel are even one tenth as talented as Liz (a former Gregory Award winner whom I know and admire) it would be a pleasure to enter and an honour to win.

Thanks for these links, Julie.

She should use her proper name then. Liz Bennet? Ugh! Sounds like it's short for Lizard. Elizabeth is a beautiful name. The only proper shortening is Bess.

However, since entry is FREE I shall have a bash. Well of course I will.

She may well have been christened Liz. I don't know. But I do know her surname is Berry and she has a Black Country accent that is truly beautiful.

When I sweep to power I will forbid the christening of people using short forms. However, accents of all sorts will be encouraged. I have three.

And Berry is a very nice name and I am sure she is a very nice person.

And I hope she wil give me the prize.

I was thinking of entering the first one, but there is nothing in the “rules” about how many poems one can enter or whether the poem(s) must be unpublished. Does anyone know?

The Terms and Conditions here (accessible, like the mandatory entry form, as a separate document linked to from the more general guidelines page above) say:

"Entry is limited to one poem per person/group." (Group?)

and

"All entries must be the original work of the entrant(s) and should not have been previously published."

(I'm not sure if "must" is stricter than "should", but it certainly sounds disapproving to me.)

They're both free. Win £100 for nothing. We're all up for that, surely?
