Matt, tnx for your input. Good to hear some thoughts post-revs. Lists, being made up by people, can be unmade by people. I'm very well aware of the po-list of cliche-words, but a word is a word and of very limited scope until it's slotted into context. It's usually the context that causes a word or phrase to be tagged as cliche. I reckon people are sick up to their eyeballs of stuff like "my heart shattered into shards when [insert event here]" - but as long as the word's in the dictionary, po-lists of this kind are recommendations or cautions, nothing more. As for reach out: if one of the things some aim for is to try and manipulate words into painting images by getting them to speak in different/unexpected ways, here's an example. It may work for some, may not for others. We've gotten so fixed in our thinking about "reach out" being a whole unit, but I wanted to suggest an alternative: how about a reading of "reach / out [determined] to...." Tnx for coming by.
