Default Boston Poetry Group (South and/or West of)

Jim Moonan and I are hoping to get together a group of relatively like-minded writers who live in the Boston area and south/west of Boston. We know there is the excellent Powow River Poets in Newburyport (and he and I went up to the Powow River Poets Reading at the Newburyport Public Library this weekend—great experience), but aside from the fact that (I assume) one must be invited, the commute is also a bit of a bear (I live in West Roxbury; Jim, Milton). Getting up there once every two months or so for the poetry reading isn’t that bad, but twice a month would be too much.

So, if there are any writers who both:

1. want to be part of a poetry group that meets 1-2 times a month
2. live somewhere in easy access the city or places south/west of the city (we’ll figure out meeting locations after we get a reasonable size)

please let either Jim and me know so we can get one up and going by mid-Spring or early Summer.

Andrew,

I'm well outside that sphere of Rt 128, or as we like to call it out here in the sticks, "The Ring of Fire." I hope your endeavor works out. I'm sure you are familiar with all of the Mass Poetry folks and activities. They might be a good resource for you. Keep us updated on your progress.

Cheers,
Greg

PS The thought of Jim living in Milton is quite poetic. Ha!

I am probably also too far outside of Boston. I'm in Fall River, and though I've been making the Powow trip once a month, and enjoy it immensely, I don't have the stamina (or patience) to sit in Boston/tunnel traffic any more than that. I'll watch with interest and see where you land.

Wonderful Marybeth!

Greg, yes, to live in Milton is to live in Paradise -- with high property taxes : )

We've gotten a few PMs from kind folks who can't really make it for good reasons. We'd love to hear from more, and maybe get a 2-3 takers.
