Among the finalists for this year's Nemerov Award are Len Krisak, A.M. Juster, and A.E. Stallings. Congratulations to all on being selected from a very, very large number of entries.

Bill Baer gets over 3000 submissions for this prize. To make it to the finals is like drawing to an inside straight flush with a grand on the table. Congrats to our finalists. Erato rules.

Congratulations all three! Can't wait for my Formalist to arrive, so I can read them.

Thanks everyone. You can read the next-to-last version of mine here--it's "Weldon Kees In Mexico." It is obviously, then, timely for me to thank everyone here for their care and attention to the early drafts of "Weldon". The final product was much improved as a result of the input.

A year or so back I sent him (I thought) some of my best sonnets, not for a competition, just for the mag, and he gave them all the bum's rush.
So congratulations all: I say, with my accustomed modesty, that he must set the standards high.
Regards,
David

Thanks to all, but Mike's
being fairly modest. This guy
has WON the contest TWICE.

Alicia's talent we all recognize,
of course.

But...the winner this year deserves
some notice, too, I feel--a woman named
Marion Shore, who has published a
lot in the Formalist over the years.
She lives nearby in Arlington, Mass.,
but we've never seen her up at the
Powows in Newburyport, nor can I recollect
ever hearing her read in the Boston area.

Apparently, she works for the Astrophysics
Lab (?) at Harvard and has done a lot of
work on Petrarch, just like Mike.

Congratulations to our Erato finalists, all excellent poets. I'm sure the winning sonnet is a fine one, to edge out such keen competition! Also on Erato's roster are Nemerov finalists Kate Light and Tom Carper.
