Was it J. P. Morgan who said that "there are two reasons things happen, the good reason and the real reason" or something to that effect? This seems to be an illustration of that.

I have not been led to understand that lower conference attendance is any part of the reasons for Kim's dismissal, stated or otherwise...

Anna, it was a mere guess on my part. I am at a university at which classes are regularly canceled if enrollments do not meet certain levels set by the administration. I thought something similar might be at work at West Chester University with the conference, but you have clarified for me that something totally different appears to be happening.

No matter the reason, it is terrible news that they're letting Kim go, plus canceling the 2015 conference!

I intend to write WCU with my support for Kim. She has done so much for the conference and for poetry. If there's a need to fix some problem, this isn't the way to do it. She's smart, energetic, tireless & talented. I agree. This is terrible news.

It's a sad day. Sad for the conference, sad for Kim and her family. And even sad for WCU, whose reputation will take a hit over this. The conference was a major part of its public image, something that helped the University stand out, especially among the other SSHE schools.
Best,
Bill

Agreed. This is totally appalling! Kim's been terrific: innovative, inclusive, a stunningly capable administrator. I can't imagine either reason for this, as Quincy put it, the "good" one or the "real" one. It's a terrible setback and a complete outrage.
I did both: email and snail mail.

This is so shocking. I'm both sad and appalled. I was hoping to attend in 2015 for the first time. They will never be able to really replace Kim, and I'm afraid their whole program will suffer for it and they will lose stature. The whole thing is insane.

Very very sorry to hear this. Makes me even sorrier that I missed this year's conference for the first time in years.

In order to dispel the inaccuracy that Kim's dismissal was in any way about conference attendance (as suggested by Sam Gwynn on Facebook) I am prepared to share in public that it was actually retaliation against Kim for desiring an audit of the Poetry Foundation finances. (Edited following legal advice)
