Default Funny Women: A Reading of Comic Poetry

I knew that no one here would be likely to be able to attend the March 18 reading I organized for Women's History Month, of the comic poems of Melissa Balmain, Gail White, and Julie Kane, since it was in Marshall, Minnesota, and we couldn't even afford to bring in the poets themselves. Instead, I got eight faculty, students, and a vice president of my university to read the poems. But the event was recorded and posted on YouTube, so if you would like to see it, here is the link:

I have managed to organize such readings in the past, which have featured poems of other Spherians such as Rhina Espaillat, Alicia Stallings, Deborah Warren, Rose Kelleher, and others, but only recently have the events been recorded. I hope some of you will find this one entertaining.

Susan

Thanks for posting this, Susan! You know I've always thought that light verse poets ought to go on the road as stand-up comics. This is coming close.

I shall immediately go enjoy. Three of my role models are in that fillm: Melissa Balmain, Gail White, and Julie Kane.

Thanks so much for thinking of us at the Sphere.

Added in: Made my day happy.

I also have the video up on my Twitter site (@amjuster) if anyone wants to spread this delightful performance through that medium.

Thanks, everyone. I am delighted that the event is being made accessible to a wider audience this way.

My favorite of all is the one with the baby that looks like a rump roast. Congratulations to Melissa Balmain, Gail White, and Julie Kane, as well as the readers!

And thanks to Susan McLean for organizing this. Susan, is there any chance you could list titles next to poets on this thread?
