I do so agree with you, Terese. Constant rain is so much nicer than constant heat. You can't DO anything when it is hot, and yu can't sleep at night, or at least I can't. That said, I do hope Friday is a nice day in Oxford, a city I have visited very seldom in the last thirty years - just enough to know the developers have done horrid things to the area that used to be called Jericho. It wasn't te walls coming tumbling down - they were always doing that - but the vile buildings going up. Was there ever such a horrid time for architecture as there was from 1950 to 1980? Now is better. Praise to the Shard, the Gherkin and the new railway stations! But Jayne, for your sake, let Northampton be free of rain this week. I'm praying, Jayne, I'm praying.

Brian,
Sorry, I forgot to thank you for the little ditty.

Terese,
Oh, heck, here I am moaning about the incessant rain and you have that horrid heat and humidity to to contend with - no one's happy, as Gregory said.

John,
I thank you for your prayers that it stops raining in Northampton, but now I'm up in Edinburgh and I've brought it with me, it seems! Last night the deluge was un-be-liev-able! This morning is grey, miserable, wet and quite cold.

The typically British trait of talking about the weather is spreading though; our US friends certainly have much to moan about too. I do sympathise.
Shaun had it about right: 25 degrees with a slight wind and no humidity - that's what we all need.

Jayne

English Weathercock

Perched proudly on the chimney stack,
my brand-new weather vane
observes the ever-changing winds
to see if it will rain.

At first the cockerel faced the West
his expectation plain.
The clouds rolled in on cue and we
had bucketloads of rain.

He next rotated North then East,
averring once again
there would be gales (and so it proved)
along with heavy rain.

Today he’s veered towards the South
and points to sun-drenched Spain.
I’ll take my mac and brolly then:
it’s bound to pour with rain.
