It was a great surprise to find a letter from the Canberra Times in my letter-box today which included a tear sheet from last Saturdays paper with my poem "Bushfire" printed on it and payment as well, Yipee!
Thanks to everyone that helped workshop this poem!

Many congratulations, Renate, I remember that poem well,
and the Canberra Times has good taste. And payment as well! - that puts you in a very small and select group of poets indeed. Well done!
Regards,
Oliver.

You go, girl! A newspaper that pays for poetry. Hmmm. Do they take Yanks? Very proud of you and happy for you, Renate.

Congrats, Renate. The Canberra Times is a good place to publish in Australia. When I was a grad student at Stanford, my friend Kevin Hart, an Australian poet, suggested I try there, and I wound up publishing a number of poems in the paper--always with a small check in return. Great!

Oliver, your kind words are appreciated, and I was thrilled
to see your poem on the board as one to be reviewd by Mr. Wilbur.
Bill, a big thanks for the encouragement and advice along the way it is invaluable!
Tim, thank you, as you often say: Erato Rules! And thank you for sharing Mr. Wilbur with us.
Paul, thank you very much, Your comments are interesting, I didn't know about the Canberra Times and it is the first poem I have sent out in to the world. I was prompted by the recent terrible fires in Canberra and just got on the interent and took pot luck really, expecting it to only show up in the "letters to the editor" section. So this did come as a big surprise.

Zita, thank you, it is appreciated. Though I'm not sure if getting things published is my goal, sometimes I think I want to bury them in the garden.
