Sad news. Perhaps many of you knew David.

I don't believe David ever posted on the Sphere. but for those of us who were fellow members of the Powow River Poets - or who attended a Powow reading - David was a presence. His knowledge, and his sheer love of language and poetry, and his own meticulously crafted poetry were unique. David was - in the truest and most complimentary sense of the phrase – a gentleman and a scholar. And a poet, and an attorney who had argued cases before the Supreme Court,, and a gentle and generous man who loved life and knowledge and sharing. He was of enormous help and encouragement to me when I joined Powow, and I am proud to think of him as a friend.

I am sorry I won't get to meet him. I have enjoyed reading his poems.

I'm sorry to hear this. I only met David once, but he was kind enough to put me up (as a stranger) in his home. He opened nice wine at dinner, and he served raspberries in cream for breakfast. I'll remember his generosity--and his mysterious "meow" at the beginning of the one Powwow meeting I sat in on in 2010.

Condolences to everyone close to him.

Nick

This is a great loss for the Powow River Poets and for poetry. I will miss David. He was charming and ebullient at the group dinner we had after a Powow reading, and I admire the intellect and wit in his poems. "After a Family Reunion" is a knockout.

For his family, Rhina, the Powows, and everyone who knew him, I'm sorry we have lost him.
