Julie, I look forward to hearing it sung.
Bill, I mean to read more of Moss.

SONNET 98

From you have I been absent in the spring,
When proud-pied April dress'd in all his trim
Hath put a spirit of youth in every thing,
That heavy Saturn laugh'd and leap'd with him.
Yet nor the lays of birds nor the sweet smell
Of different flowers in odour and in hue
Could make me any summer's story tell,
Or from their proud lap pluck them where they grew;
Nor did I wonder at the lily's white,
Nor praise the deep vermilion in the rose;
They were but sweet, but figures of delight,
Drawn after you, you pattern of all those.
Yet seem'd it winter still, and, you away,
As with your shadow I with these did play.

The Force

The force that through the green fuse drives the flower
drives my flesh fuse, afire from friction—
love’s detonator.
And I am numb to knowing fact or fiction,
my brain exploding when I know her.

After a first line by Dylan Thomas

Interesting, Ralph.

Reminds me of something I did with a very short W.C. Williams poem, where I replaced merely one word (and altered the first line a wee tad), but changed it into something obscene, and rather hilarious, if I do say so.

I won't post it, since it has nothing to do with Spring.

Must wrack my brain for a really good Spring poem now...

Dear March - Come in - (1320)
Emily Dickinson

Dear March - Come in -
How glad I am -
I hoped for you before -
Put down your Hat -
You must have walked -
How out of Breath you are -
Dear March, how are you, and the Rest -
Did you leave Nature well -
Oh March, Come right upstairs with me -
I have so much to tell -

I got your Letter, and the Birds -
The Maples never knew that you were coming -
I declare - how Red their Faces grew -
But March, forgive me -
And all those Hills you left for me to Hue -
There was no Purple suitable -
You took it all with you -

Who knocks? That April -
Lock the Door -
I will not be pursued -
He stayed away a Year to call
When I am occupied -
But trifles look so trivial
As soon as you have come

Default Spring

There was a little lamb
a-running in the fields
with all its little friends
hard upon its heels.

Round and round they went,
off to the left, then to the right.
On legs as stiff as virgin springs
up and down they bounced
with all their tiny might.

And in the eyes of god and man
it was a wondrous sight.
Innocence and joy, sacrifice and food
all in one small animal combined.
