Default Election

(Do threads here expire? I can't find the election thread I planned to add to.)

To prevent our earlier election thread from looking like evidence to the contrary, I want to say here that I voted this morning for Clinton. I don't share the contempt expressed by some for third-party votes, but I've come to have some hope for a Clinton administration.

Get out there and vote.

Not to speak for Max, but, Charlie, I imagine he voted for the Clinton who was running. Me too. Best wishes to all of you who will cast your votes today. I remain moved by the exercise, naive as it may be to say so. As usual we took the kids to the polls, but this year there were some differences:
1) we went first thing in the morning...
2) the firstborn is now 17 1/2 and can hardly bear not being able to vote herself...
3) we went for doughnuts after (an apple fritter every four years won't kill me, right?)

I'm about to go off to start decorating for the Cambridge results watch party. Bizarrely, I might be interviewed on the NY Times Facebook feed around midnight GMT.

I did vote, but the absentee ballot I requested never arrived, so I had to send the federal write-in ballot. No prizes for guessing who I voted for.

Oh my - the Channel 4 news is about to do a piece on campaigning in poetry... (edited to add: that must have been a metaphor).

Mario Cuomo said we campaign in poetry and govern in prose.

We do the same. It's a ritual I cherish.

Hillary, of course. And basically straight Democrat, though I did vote down-ballot for a Republican running (unopposed) for the State Senate - Bruce is a good guy, and has done a lot for Plum Island.

Lifetime - and that covers a lot of elections - I can still remember every Republican I voted for - Nelson Rockefeller and John Lindsay (both of whom would be Democrats today) back in my New York days; William Weld (now the Libertarian VP candidate, the only one who's heard of Allepo, and a declared Hillary voter) when I moved to Mass; and Bruce Tarr locally. That's it!

Apologies for wading in as a mere Brit bystander, but over here we can't believe the amount of support that Trump has! Listening to some of his fans is like . . . well, it's almost as bad as listening to the man himself.

All we can do is wait, and hope that sanity will prevail amongst the majority of US citizens. It has to be Hillary.
Only a few hours to go . . .

Jayne

I hear you, Jayne. It feels like some kind of surreal nightmare sometimes. I voted Hillary and Dems all the way. The suspense is awful. Just listened to Bruce Springsteen singing for Hillary to cheer myself up (easily found on the web.) Will shortly do some grading to take my mind off things...
