I am ecstatic to announce that this year's winner of the prestigious yet lucrative Howard Nemerov Sonnet Award sponsored by The Formalist is OUR very own Deborah Warren, selected by OUR very own Tipsy Muse judge Joe Kennedy, who is moonlighting as a judge for other competitions in order to make ends meet. Congratulations to one of my favorite people and poets, and also to OUR very own former Tipsy Muse judge Rhina Espaillat, whose Powow River Poets group based in Newburyport Massachusetts has now taken four of the nine Nemerovs and the last three Richard Wilbur Prizes of the University of Evansville Press. Deborah is one of an increasing number of accomplished formalists mentored by Rhina. Great work!!!

Good work, indeed! Mike, would Powow have five if you hadn't wrecked their record by winning last year?

Oh no, I count as a Powow, having moved from fellow traveller to full-blooded member a while ago.

Hi, Mike--nice to have you back!

Deborah's work is greatly appreciated
not just by her fellow Powows, but by
the entire Boston/New England/Formalist
circuit.

I just wish she'd browse these boards
so she could see your comment, Mike.

And while we're busy being ecstatic,
here's a P.S.--two of the twelve
finalists for this year's Nemerov were
Rhina Espaillat and yours truly.

(No false modesty around here)
