Default Jimmy Gribble, aka Bugsy

I'm sorry to report that Jimmy Gribble, aka Bugsy, has died in an auto accident. Here is a link to his funeral home obituary.

James Maurice "Jimmy" Gribble
October 17, 1952 - November 29, 2016

Jimmy had a quirky, irreverent sense of humor and wrote some very funny light verse. He wrote some serious poetry, too. Here are links to a few poems of his, published under the pen name Washington Snow.

Reunion

To His Koi Mistress

The Colt Armstrong poems

Mr. Vice President

I'm sure Nancy, his wife of 44 years, would appreciate hearing from his poet friends. Also, if you have any more links to his poems, please share them.

I am very sorry to hear this, Rose, but thanks for letting us know. I enjoyed Bugsy's sense of humor and his participation on this site. I've missed him in recent years (and you, too).

Susan

I think of stew
as entréegoo,
like someone scarfed
their meal, and barfed.

That was circa 2005. Eleven years later and I still remember it!

I know, right? Love that.

Here's some inventive rhyming...

Here's a challenge he posted way back in 2006 that got some funny responses (that is, funny in a way that only nerds who participate in online poetry workshops would understand).

Let us go then, you and I,
down to Eva's Diner for a slice of pie...

The man who labeled relish
engaged in oversell.
For relish, I’m not zelish...
it rarely makes me rel.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Jimmy and I feuded at times on the Sphere, but had a good personal relationship with lots of PM's and e-mails I don't know if I have any of his poems buried in old files, but will look. He was a talented, warm and funny guy.

I discovered after I learned the sad news that Bugsy and I exchanged email more than ten years ago, back in the glory days of the Gazebo, and of course so many of us have come to know him over the years. I'd been happy to see him posting again on Eratosphere after a long absence, and I'll miss him.

I'm so sorry to hear this sad news. My condolences to Bugsy's (Jimmy's) wife and family. As someone who is more sarcastic cynic than wit, I always admired (and was envious of) his deft wordplay and humor. I look forward to rereading his poems here.

I am so very sorry to hear this! "Bugsy" and I had some lovely conversations here, some years back. And he was kind enough to order an autographed copy of my first book, and I was grateful. Auto accident, how awful ...

I'm very sorry to hear this.
I loved his quirky sense of humour, and his transparent humanity.
