Default North by John Whitworth

This poem was in the May Quadrant and made me richer by 80 Australian Dollars. It was an entry for the Speccie Competition North and South where it failed to win. There's a moral there somewhere. Those who would like to see it (should there be any) onlyhave to look up the comp. It's still there.

If I may say so, it's a jolly good poem. Ann sang it, in her bath I think.

John,

Congrats on adding to your long list of publications. I'd say the moral is that it pays to recycle. I just looked it up, and it deserves a better fate than the Spectator gave it.

By the way, your opening line reminds me of the famous 1923 Jordan automobile advertisement, which began "Somewhere west of Laramie".

Thank you, Douglas. Now the poem can go in my next book. I never include a poem that hasn't been published somewhere else.

Congratulations, John. My internet search skills aren't up to finding true "North," but I'll look forward to seeing it in your next book.

Best,

Ed

Youse all could find 'North' in the Speccie Comp 'North and South'.

Yup! Competition 2963 North and South. First Item. And then 9O joy!) we have Annie singing in the bath.
