Catherine Tufariello and Mike Juster are featured at the May 9 Powow River Poets reading. They are both outstanding contemporary Formalists, and this should be a terrific event for Boston and north-of-Boston area poets.
The reading starts at 7:30 PM, Newburyport Art Association Gallery, 65 Water Street, Newburyport, MA,
www.newburyportart.org and is followed by an Open Mike.
Catherine Tufariello is on this year's WCU faculty. Her first full-length collection of poems,
Keeping My Name, was a finalist for the 2005 Los Angeles Times Book Prize in Poetry and the winner of the 2006 Poets’ Prize. She also has published a limited-edition letterpress book,
Annunciations and a chapbook,
Free Time. Her poems have appeared widely in such journals and anthologies as
Poetry, The Hudson Review, The New Penguin Book of Love Poetry, Western Wind, and
Contemporary American Poetry.
A. M. (Mike) Juster, a long time Powow and Sphere member, recently won the Newburyport Art Association 2007 Poetry Contest. He is a two-time winner of the Nemerov Sonnet Award; and his book of poetry,
The Secret Language of Women, won the 2002 Richard Wilbur Award. His poems have appeared in
The Paris Review, Carolina Quarterly, Measure, The Formalist, Michigan Quarterly Review and many other publications. Additional published work includes translations from Chinese, Latin, French and Italian; and he has started publishing sections of a complete version of Horace's Satires written in heroic couplets.
