Thanks Michael.

British entrants, where do you get your dollars? Realistically, I only really have one sonnet worth entering. Will a bank let me buy such a small amount?

best,

Matt

I live in Canada, but every bank has US dollars one can purchase.

Thanks Catherine,

Yes, banks in the UK will have dollars too. I was more wondering if there was a minimum amount I had to exchange. I guess I can just go to the nearest bank and ask.

best,

Matt

I'll happily spot three bucks for any British Sphereans who want to enter, out of the money I won for a Spectator contest I would never have heard of if not for you lot.

You'll have to trust me to print out and mail in your entry by the deadline, though. (And it takes three or four days for the Pony Express to get Back East from California, so you can't wait much longer.)

PM me if you're interested.

I'm not entering, myself. After over a decade of entering and making the finals only once, it's pretty clear to me that the screener doesn't like my style. He might like yours, though.

Julie,

Many thanks for such a kind offer, I may yet take you up on it. As to the deadline, it's postmark date, not date of receipt, so I have a few more days to check out the bank.

Alain,

Let them discover email first. One step at a time.

I didn't realise on first read it was an offer. That's due to my ignorance of the word 'spot'. Yes, thank you for the offer, Julie.

Their instructions: Author's name, address, phone number, and e-mail address (if available) should be typed on the back of each entry comes over as rather quaint. Shall I get my rusty typewriter out?
Seriously, though, I wish there were formalist competitions in the UK.

A question: does 'unpublished' mean unpublished in the US?

I have no formal role with the Nemerov folks, but I am pretty sure that "unpublished" has no geographical limitations.

On the other hand, don't blame me if I'm wrong, but I won three times and placed five times before they put me out to pasture, and I always printed neatly on the back.

Alan,

It turns out that Post Office were quite happy to sell me 3 dollars. £2.65 I think it cost me.
