From West Chester.... A Palaver of Poets!

Thanks for pushing this along, Jayne.

Hmm... I'll be in Leicester on your date, July 27--having left London on July 21.... Thinking....

On a thread on Facebook yesterday started by Katy Evans-Bush someone said that a collection of poets is a bitterness of poets. The epithet could be given a positive twist if you drink English beer instead of Pimms.

I'll only be in England from 15th to 22nd August this summer, I'm afraid. But I'll happily join any festive bitternesses or pimmses in that week, should any be organised.

Gregory,
I fully intend to organise something for that week in August as well now!!! (Ooo, could I be that lucky and have you all to myself for lunch? Sorry... I was hyperventilating there for a moment )

Duncan,
I'm afraid I can't put a positive connotation on 'A bitterness of poets' no matter how hard I try. Nope, that won't do at all. I like Maryann's Pimm's and Charlotte's Palaver, but there must be others... let's come back to that one.

Charlotte,
I know you'll have left London a few days previously but we're so near, my dear -- what the heck? -- we can just go back again!

The gathering is increasing, which is a delightful thought. There'll be others, I know it.

Jayne

How about a jereboam of poets, preferring assonance to alliteration. (More glorious than the humble "pack," as in Hemingway's, "Writers should stick together like wolves.")

Jayne, just us two or a jolly jostling jeroboam (I like that word, Bill, and I'm going to get my alliteration as well)... Let's set it up!

See what I mean? Poets are far too nice to be referred to collectively as a 'bitterness'.

Hi Jayne and everyone,

How about meeting somewhere in the Midlands--between Leicester and London?

Simon, I just noticed that you'll be in Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire. Isn't that near the train line between London and Leicester?

Not sure if that would work for everyone, though.

Thoughts, anyone?

Charlotte

Hi Charlotte,
Somewhere like Milton Keynes would fit the bill geographically, ...but have you ever been to Milton Keynes???

London has so much more to offer that we'd be better off meeting there, IMO. It's easy for everyone to get to, and to get around, so I suggest we stick with the capital. The choice of restaurants alone makes it well worth the visit!!!

A couple replies...

Jayne--Yes, we can meet at the Linslade Globe as well as or instead of the London gathering...

Charlotte--Yes, I'll be in Leighton Buzzard (actually, Linslade next-door) for the duration. I think it's on a London-Birmingham line, but I don't know anything really about timetables and such things.

Jayne, again--My brother lives in Milton Keynes; I think he likes it. It strikes me as a very curious place and not one I would go on purpose. Of course, if the consensus is that it's the best place to gather then I'll try to get there. I vote for London on the 27th, though, provided I can make it work around my theatre tickets for that afternoon.

Looking forward to meeting you people in person!
