Default Yeats and the "Occult"

Part 2 of a 3-part radio show (rce radio in Ireland) for the 150th anniversary of Yeats's birth:

Thanks, Andrew -- that was very enjoyable.

Yeats is a magnificent poet despite and because of his exotic spiritual exercises. Whenever I return to him, he is still surprising and new. I find there is something strange, an uncanny power in his work.

"An uncanny power" is a good way to put it. I thought the presenters of this radio show were excellent. Shame about the way the poems are read, however (except the sung version of "Song of Wandering Aengus" at the end, which I liked a lot).

"A Vision" was actually my introduction to Yeats.

Yeats the Initiate, by Kathleen Raine, is excellent on The Vision and other aspects of Yeats that have driven so many academic critics nuts. Some of that book is available on googlebooks, I just found out.
