Eratosphere's own Tim Murphy has several splendid poems in the current Sewanee Review (Winter '02, because they're a season behind). This week's assignment for all other Eratosphereans is to buy a copy, read it, and write to George Core in appreciation. Congratulations, Tim!

Tim, Congratulations, indeed! This is one tough nut to crack. I'm looking forward to seeing the issue!

Thanks, everyone! When I published my first poems in the Yale Review at 19, R.P. Warren told me "If you work hard, boy, someday you'll be in the Seeewannee Review." 32 years later, he's right. Core is a tough nut to crack and has the irritating habit of editing my poems, the only editor who's ever tried that. Two of the poems appear in very different guise in VFN. Of course Core is so old he has ploughed with a mule, and he probably figures he knows more about hunting and farming and poetry than I do.

Tim, good work! Glad to hear you endured and survived the old farmer. He recently edited mine as well, so much so that I took them back. (Back in '77 he did the same with an essay, but I endured it then--no mas!).

Cheers,
