The end of Poesia
Hey, folks,
I have here at my desk the volume VIII, number one, of Poesia, which arrived this week, and which is also, sadly, their last edition. They were committed to publishing new voices, both here and abroad, and the Italian and Canadian contingents are well represented. They also published a number of translations. The only spherian I immediately recognize is C.B. Anderson, who seems to be shadowing me lately...
Anyway, a quick glance at page 58 reveals my precious Pearl, which finally found a home just under the wire. I've always liked that one.
Alas, goodbye, Poesia, you had a good run, did good work, and developed excellent taste right at the very end!
Thanks,
Bill

Glad you made it!
I didn't even know Poesia existed, Bill--it's always sad when a litmag goes under, especially a good one that deserved a wider readership. I hope I'll get a look at a copy & the poem itself sometime.

Which mag. is this, Bill? The Italian glossy Poesia, which always has pictures of poets on the cover? That would be a major loss.

Andrew,
No worries, I think the Italian version is safe!
This one was published in the heart of the heart of this country.
Thanks,
Bill

Congrats, Bill, for getting Pearl in that journal. Sorry to hear it's the last issue.

I sometimes get the Italian Poesia. I'm surprised by the non-Italians they feature (though I'm impressed that they cover as many as they do). By chance the April edition featured a Canadian (who I've never heard of) - Janice Kulyk Keefer. 16 pages! There's also a review of the 990 page antho, "Nuova poesia americana - New York".

Salve et vale - and congratulations on catching the ship's final voyage, Bill.
