Thanks to our very distinguished guest
So we've now got all the poems, and all Geoff's generous commentaries (generous both in scope and in their rich appreciation of the translators' work). Many thanks indeed, Geoff, on behalf of all the members, both those who have participated and those who have been following the discussions - and like me, I'm sure, learning an awful lot. It's been great having you here - a model practitioner of the DG's art! - and we all hope you'll keep visiting, and (when the mood strikes you) taking part.
My sincere sympathy goes to the composers of the excellent translations which didn't make it to the final 10. The quality of the work gave Geoff a hard task in making his selection. Thanks to all the participants for their contributions - it's been a great experience with which I'm proud to have been involved.
Let's have another day of discussion while we make up our minds about rankings. I'll start a separate voting thread tomorrow, first thing Friday (UK time) and after all the member votes are in, we'll invite Geoff to post his own top three. Then the translators' identities will be revealed to an astonished world.
Thanks again, all!
