Default Linebreak and others

This is moderately awkward after our recent discussions. But I am extremely pleased to have a poem up this week at Linebreak, a really good-looking site that has published A.E. Stallings and Jehanne Dubrow and many other people whose work I love.

And the newly energetic Flea took two, including "Flourish," 'shopped at Met a while ago. And SCR took two, including a much-revised "Emergences," 'shopped on Met a longer while ago. And Raintown took "Phone Call...." also on Met a very long while ago. For all these helps, and many others, thanks.

Maryann,

Congrats on a bunch of good landings. Linebreak is a very cool venue. I love how it is laid out, how they have other poets read the work, and the high quality of the work. It is co-edited by Ashley Anna McHugh who I think won the Criterion Book Award. She is very talented.

But all the venues you listed are top-notch, so way to go!

David R.

Wow, Linebreak is indeed top flight and hard to get into. Big congrats also for the other lovely venues. Well-deserved, Maryann. 2011 is starting out great for you.

Wow, Maryann. You are really on a roll!

Linebreak is pretty cool. Besides the contributors you mention, there's also Dorianne Laux, Sandra Beasley, Jim Cervantes, Nic Sebastion... lots of really good people on there. Big congrats.

And for all the others as well... seriously, you should buy a whole case of champagne, just so you have a new bottle to open each time!

Thanks,

Bill

Who cares?

Of course, we all do. Congratulations! I didn't know about Linebreak, and it sounds like I've been missing out.

Congratulations, Maryann.

The poem in Linebreak, "Two Funerals", is very good. Thanks for sharing this accomplishment. Look forward to reading the others as well.

Tracey

Congratulations Maryann on all of your recent successes! I like that Linebreak includes an audio reading of the poem, even though the device I'm currently on doesn't support audio so I haven't actually yet heard it. Did you, as the poet, get a say in who read your work for the audio?

Best,
Laurel

Thanks, everyone, especially for the comments on the Linebreak poem.

There have been several questions about their recorded readings, so here goes:

The magazine's stated policy is that all poems will be read by someone other than the poet. The roster of readers isn't public; the editors assign poems to volunteer readers. (This is probably a good idea; poets could easily get greedy about basking in the glow of a big-name reader.)

One does learn from hearing what a different reader does with one's poem. Maybe it's always a little disconcerting! For additional, and interesting, takes on the learning that happens from other people's reading-aloud, take a look at Nic Sebastian's Voice Alpha site.
